A River Born in the Mountains

The Ångermanälven begins as a scatter of small streams high in the Scandinavian mountains before growing into one of northern Sweden's most significant rivers. From its highland source it threads roughly 460 kilometers southeast, gathering tributaries as it carves through the forests and lake country of Västernorrland.

The View from Marieberg

This camera is positioned at Marieberg, a quiet riverside hamlet in the Bjärtrå district of Kramfors Municipality, where the Ångermanälven widens into a broad, lake-like reach bordered by low forested hills. Birch leaves and branches frame the foreground, giving the scene a distinctly Norrland character.

Gateway to the Gulf of Bothnia

Not far downstream, the Ångermanälven completes its journey by emptying into the Gulf of Bothnia, part of the Baltic Sea. The river has long shaped the region's settlements, forestry, and transport, and remains one of Ångermanland's defining natural landmarks.
