This infrared camera is mounted inside a barn owl nest box on a concrete tower in Emilia-Romagna, part of Italy's M.C.B.I. (Monitoraggio e Conservazione del Barbagianni Italia) research network. Unlike its companion camera on the box's exterior, this interior view frames the straw-lined floor where the resident pair rests, incubates, and raises its brood.

The M.C.B.I. Conservation Project

Founded by a coalition of naturalists and researchers, M.C.B.I. installs nest boxes for the barn owl (Tyto alba) at sites across Italy, gathering ethological data to support the species' conservation nationwide without disturbing the birds.

Behavior Inside the Box

Watch the pair groom, rest, and tend to eggs or chicks tucked against the straw, often exchanging prey brought in through the entrance hole. The infrared sensor reveals every visit in fine detail, a vantage the exterior camera cannot offer.
