Lake Superior stretches to the horizon in this view from Batchawana Bay, north of Sault Ste. Marie. As the largest of the Great Lakes by surface area, its scale is impossible to miss even from the shoreline.

A Rugged Northern Shore

Rocky outcrops break the surface near the shoreline, typical of the Canadian Shield coastline that defines this stretch of Ontario's north. The setting is quiet, remote and largely untouched by development.
