Home to the Largest Bat Colony on Earth

Within the cavern roost an estimated fifteen to twenty million Mexican free-tailed bats, making Bracken Cave the single largest concentration of mammals anywhere on the planet. The colony gathers here to raise its pups each summer, filling the cave's chambers with one of nature's most extraordinary wildlife spectacles.

The Emergence Flight

As the colony departs to forage, the bats spiral out of the cave mouth in a vast, swirling column that can take hours to fully empty the cavern. This funnel-shaped vortex is one of the most recognizable natural phenomena in North America, drawing researchers and naturalists eager to witness the sheer scale of the flight.
