The plaza and its beachside kiosks sit at the heart of Avenida Atlântica, the palm-lined promenade that traces the entire bay. It is one of the city's busiest gathering points, where locals and visitors cross from the boardwalk onto the open sand.

Beyond the beach, the South Atlantic swells roll steadily onto the shore, their white foam tracing the curve of the bay all the way to its distant headlands.
