Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Living Bee-eater Colony
The camera frames a sandy embankment riddled with hundreds of nesting burrows, each tunnel hand-dug by a pair of Blue-tailed Bee-eaters (Merops philippinus). Through the breeding season the colony becomes a constant blur of motion as adults ferry insects to their underground nests.
A Jewel of Taiwan's Birdlife
The Blue-tailed Bee-eater is a summer breeding visitor to Kinmen, prized by photographers for its turquoise, gold and chestnut plumage and acrobatic aerial hunting. The species snatches dragonflies and bees on the wing, returning to favoured perches to feed.
Cihu Triangle Fort & Kinmen National Park
The colony sits beside the historic Cihu Triangle Fort, a former military strongpoint within Kinmen National Park. The protected wetlands and reservoir of Cihu make this corner of the island a magnet for migratory birds.
