A Line Through the Somerset Countryside

The West Somerset Railway is a volunteer-run heritage railway that revives a former Great Western Railway branch, marking fifty years of preservation since it reopened in 1976. Crowcombe Heathfield is one of its most tranquil intermediate stops.

Trees, Hedgerows, and Twin Tracks

Tall hedgerows and mature trees crowd the cutting on both sides of the platform, giving the station a secluded, wooded feel rarely found on a working railway. The twin tracks curve gently past a small trackside cabin used by the line's staff.

The line beyond Crowcombe Heathfield continues north toward the coastal towns of Dunster and Minehead, the terminus of the West Somerset Railway. Steam and heritage diesel services pass this spot on their way along the scenic branch route.
