The Most Beautiful Station in Taiwan

Duoliang Station sits at the 400.5 km marker of Provincial Highway 9, on the rugged southeast coast of Taiwan. Built on a steep slope, its platform was raised on elevated supports so passengers could look straight out over the Pacific Ocean — a rare vantage that earned it a reputation as the island's most scenic railway stop.

Where Railway, Mountain and Sea Meet

The camera captures the celebrated juxtaposition of steel track, forested ridgelines and open water. Trains on the South-Link Line emerge from tunnels bored into the hillside and race along the shore, seeming to skim the sea surface — a scene often compared to the dreamlike railway of Spirited Away.

From Working Halt to Icon

Once a modest Taiwan Railways flag stop, Duoliang ended passenger service in 2006 and was formally decommissioned. Its distinctive red platform railings remain, and the abandoned station has become a beloved viewpoint drawing railfans and travellers from across the country.

Visiting the Viewpoint

Perched above Taimali's coastline, the site offers sweeping panoramas of the Pacific and the mountains of Taitung. Reached by turning off the coastal highway and climbing toward the old platform, it rewards visitors with one of the most photographed coastal railway scenes in the region.
