The main approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha opens beneath a towering torii gate, flanked by stone lanterns and the shrine's principal halls. This entrance sets the tone for what lies beyond: a seemingly endless tunnel of torii gates donated by worshippers and businesses over centuries.
Shrine of the Rice Deity
Founded in 711 AD, Fushimi Inari Taisha is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice, sake, and prosperity. Stone kitsune (fox) statues, regarded as Inari's messengers, guard the grounds and appear throughout the shrine complex.
