Gin Beach

Gin Beach lies along the ocean-facing shoreline at the eastern tip of Long Island, where low dunes and windswept beach grass separate a quiet stretch of sand from the open Atlantic. The camera's vantage from the parking area takes in the full sweep of the beach toward the horizon.

The Montauk Inlet

A narrow channel, flanked by a long stone jetty, cuts through the barrier beach to connect the ocean with the sheltered waters beyond. Fishing boats and pleasure craft regularly pass between the twin breakwaters, threading the current on their way in or out.

Lake Montauk Harbor

Beyond the inlet lies Lake Montauk, a broad natural harbor and home port for one of the East Coast's busiest charter and commercial fishing fleets. The protected basin gives Montauk's mariners easy access to the rich fishing grounds off the tip of Long Island.

Coastal Recreation & Wildlife

The dunes and jetty rocks around Gin Beach draw shorebirds and anglers alike, while the beach itself is a popular spot for walking, surfcasting and watching the boat traffic move through the inlet against the backdrop of the open sea.
