A Sanctuary for Grauer's Gorillas
The GRACE (Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education) centre is the only facility on Earth dedicated to the care of orphaned Grauer's gorillas, also known as eastern lowland gorillas. Rescued individuals are rehabilitated within a vast forested corridor that mirrors their wild habitat.
The Forest Corridor Habitat
The camera overlooks a stretch of equatorial rainforest in the highlands of North Kivu, where the apes forage among broad-leaved vegetation and tangled undergrowth. This biodiverse landscape forms part of the broader Albertine Rift, one of Africa's richest ecological regions.
A Critically Endangered Subspecies
Grauer's gorilla is the largest of the four gorilla subspecies and is classified as critically endangered. This feed offers a rare, intimate window into the lives of animals that are otherwise almost impossible to observe in the wild.
Conservation in Action
Run by explore.org in partnership with local Congolese teams, the project blends wildlife care with community education and habitat protection, turning every viewer into a witness of frontline great ape conservation.
