The vantage point is the keep of Kakegawa Castle, first raised in the late fifteenth century and famously rebuilt in traditional timber in the 1990s. The dark curved roof tiles and white plaster walls of the surrounding turrets fill the foreground, offering an intimate look at authentic castle architecture.

Looking outward, the lens covers the urban core of Kakegawa, a city in western Shizuoka Prefecture. A patchwork of low residences, apartment blocks and narrow streets stretches across the basin, threaded by the routes that link this region to the wider Tōkai corridor.
