A Protected Salt Lagoon

The Laguna de La Mata is one of two shallow saltwater lagoons that form the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja, a protected wetland on the southern Costa Blanca. Its mineral-rich waters can take on striking pink and amber hues across the seasons.

Wildlife and Birdlife

These tranquil shallows are a vital haven for migratory birds, including flocks of flamingos, herons and waders that feed along the reed-fringed banks. The reserve sits on a key Mediterranean flyway between Europe and Africa.
