This fixed camera looks straight into a purpose-built barn owl nest box, showing every detail of feather-soft bedding, eggs, and growing owlets. Barn owls (Tyto alba) are famed for their heart-shaped facial disc, which channels sound to their ears with remarkable precision, letting them locate prey by hearing alone.

Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve

The box sits within Lorton Meadows, a flower-rich grassland and woodland reserve on the edge of Weymouth, Dorset, managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust. The reserve's mosaic of hedgerows and rough grass provides ideal hunting ground for voles and other small mammals that make up the bulk of a barn owl's diet.
