A Storied Sentinel
Built in 1876, the Morris Island Lighthouse once guided ships through the treacherous shoals at the mouth of Charleston Harbor. Decades of shoreline erosion have left the tower stranded offshore in the surf, an iconic silhouette that remains one of South Carolina's most photographed landmarks.
A View From the Lantern Room
This camera is mounted high inside the lighthouse itself, looking outward across the Atlantic Ocean and the barrier-island coastline of Folly Beach. The wide, unobstructed sweep takes in passing vessels, the surf line, and the marshes that ring Lighthouse Inlet.
Marsh and Shoreline Wildlife
The surrounding salt marsh and barrier beach form a productive habitat for shorebirds, pelicans, and other coastal wildlife, making the feed a favorite for birdwatchers keeping an eye on the inlet from afar.
Preserved by Save the Light
The nonprofit Save the Light, Inc., working with Dominion Energy, maintains the lighthouse and its grounds, keeping this historic sentinel accessible to the public and this camera streaming for visitors around the world.
