A View of Gothic Paris

This camera looks out over the River Seine toward Notre-Dame de Paris, one of the world's most celebrated examples of French Gothic architecture. The cathedral's twin towers, spire and intricate flying buttresses dominate the skyline of the Île de la Cité.

The Seine and Its Quays

In the foreground, the River Seine flows between historic stone embankments lined with plane trees. Bateaux-mouches and sightseeing cruisers pass regularly, reflecting the river's role as the living heart of the French capital.

The Île de la Cité

Notre-Dame rises on the Île de la Cité, the medieval island where Paris was founded more than two thousand years ago. The surrounding embankments form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Banks of the Seine.

A Cathedral Reborn

The scaffolding and protective hoardings reflect the monumental restoration of Notre-Dame following the 2019 fire, a painstaking effort to return the cathedral to its former glory stone by stone.
