The Osprey Nest

This camera looks directly onto a large osprey nest built of branches atop a purpose-made platform. The fish-eating raptors return here to raise their young, offering close views of incubation, feeding and the comings and goings of the adult birds.

Lake Kallavesi

Beyond the nest stretches Lake Kallavesi, one of the largest lakes in the Finnish lake district surrounding the city of Kuopio. Its expanse of open water is dotted with wooded islands and bordered by dense boreal forest.

Wildlife & Habitat

The surrounding boreal landscape is rich habitat for waterbirds and birds of prey. Patient viewers may catch the ospreys diving for fish, returning with a catch, or sharing the nest with their chicks.
