The exhibit recreates a Philippine coral reef, one of the planet's richest marine ecosystems. Hundreds of reef fish, invertebrates, and hard and soft corals share the tank, offering a rare look at a habitat found thousands of miles away.

One of the World's Deepest Coral Tanks

At roughly 25 feet deep, this is among the deepest living-coral displays anywhere. The depth lets light filter down through the water, sustaining the corals and giving the scene its striking blue clarity.

Science on Display at the Academy

The California Academy of Sciences pairs this tank with active research into reef health and conservation. Divers regularly enter the exhibit to feed the animals and answer visitors' questions about the fragile reef ecosystem.

What You Can Spot

Look for surgeonfish, wrasses, and shimmering schools drifting past the coral. Each view reveals the constant, quiet motion of a working reef community.
