Swakopmund Jetty 1905

A Century-Old Landmark

Built in 1905 during the German colonial era, the jetty was originally constructed as a cargo pier to serve ships anchored off Swakopmund's exposed shoreline. Today the restored wooden structure stands as one of Namibia's most recognizable coastal landmarks, stretching far beyond the surf line into open water.

Life Along the Boardwalk

Locals and visitors stroll the length of the pier, anglers line the railings, and the restaurant at its base draws crowds looking to take in unobstructed ocean views. The wide wooden planks and iron railings give an authentic sense of the pier's original engineering.

Atlantic Wildlife

Seabirds including cormorants and gulls are a constant presence around the pilings, drawn by the nutrient-rich Benguela current that sweeps this stretch of coast. Occasional sightings of dolphins and seals add to the pier's reputation as a spot for casual wildlife watching.

The Swakopmund Coastline

Beyond the jetty, the view extends along Swakopmund's long Atlantic shoreline, where German colonial architecture meets the edge of the Namib Desert. The pier offers one of the best vantage points in town for observing the meeting of sea and sand that defines this stretch of coast.
