Torik Coastal Overlook

A Coastal Gateway on Taiwan's East Coast

The Torik Visitor Center serves as headquarters for the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, perched on a plateau in Chenggong Township, Taitung County. Framed by mountains behind and the vast Pacific Ocean ahead, the site captures one of the most dramatic meeting points of land and sea along Taiwan's eastern shoreline.

Amis Indigenous Heritage

Adjacent to the visitor center stands the Amis Folk Custom Center, celebrating the culture of the Indigenous Amis people, whose traditional name for this area, Katomayan, means "black bear territory." The surrounding village of Torik is renowned for its skilled weavers, who craft intricate patterns from shell-flower leaves.

Open Lawns and Land Art

Broad, manicured lawns extend from the center toward the shoreline, periodically transformed into an open-air gallery for the East Coast Land Arts Festival. Large-scale sculptures dot the grass against a backdrop of ocean and sky, drawing visitors who come to picnic, stroll, and take in the coastal panorama.

Views Toward Sanxiantai and Green Island

From this vantage point, visitors can look north toward Chenggong and the iconic Sanxiantai rock formations, and south across the water to spot the outline of Green Island. The wide-open horizon makes the terrace a favored spot for taking in the vastness of the Pacific.
