Ancient Doric Architecture
The Valley of the Temples preserves one of the largest and best-conserved concentrations of Greek Doric architecture outside Greece itself. Built in the 5th century BC, the honey-colored limestone columns of the Temple of Concordia have survived the centuries largely intact, a rare feat among ancient ruins.
A UNESCO World Heritage Landscape
Spread across a limestone ridge overlooking the Mediterranean, the site is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage property and ranks among the most significant archaeological parks in the world. Its scale and preservation earned Agrigento the ancient reputation of being the most beautiful city inhabited by mortals, in the words of the poet Pindar.
Temples Along the Ridge
Beyond the Temple of Concordia, the valley holds the remains of the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Heracles, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, each marking a different chapter of the ancient city's religious life. Silvery olive groves and native Mediterranean scrub frame the ruins, giving the whole valley an enduring, timeless character.
