The Nest and Its Eagles
Perched in the crown of a tall Scots pine, this nest belongs to a pair of white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla), Europe's largest eagle by wingspan. The camera looks straight into the massive stick platform the birds rebuild and reuse across the years, offering an intimate view of feeding, preening and the constant tending of the nest.
Nizhnyaya Kama National Park
The nest sits within Nizhnyaya Kama National Park, a protected mosaic of boreal pine forest, floodplain meadows and wetlands in the Republic of Tatarstan. Below the treeline, the land falls away toward the wide Kama River, whose reservoir and shoreline supply the fish and waterfowl these eagles hunt.
What You Can See
Expect adult eagles arriving with fish and prey, the jostling of growing chicks, and sweeping views over the forested ridgeline and distant water. The wild, undisturbed setting makes this one of the best windows onto a top apex predator of the Russian forest.
About the Species
The white-tailed eagle is a conservation success story across much of its range, recovering after decades of decline. Recognisable by its broad wings, pale head and distinctive white tail, it is a powerful fish-eagle whose return marks the health of the rivers and forests it depends on.
