Location and Geography

Tarragona province extends across southern Catalonia, bordering the provinces of Barcelona, Lleida, and Castellón, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Its territory ranges from the Mediterranean coast to the foothills of the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit, offering remarkable landscape diversity.

Historical and Cultural Heritage

The province stands out for housing the Roman archaeological ensemble of Tarraco, declared a World Heritage Site, which transforms the provincial capital into an open-air museum of the Roman era. Additionally, it features important Cistercian monasteries such as Poblet and Santes Creus, and numerous medieval castles scattered throughout its territory.

Costa Dorada and Tourism

The Costa Dorada constitutes one of the province's main attractions, with tourist destinations like Salou, Cambrils, and Calafell, offering extensive golden sand beaches and comprehensive tourist infrastructure. The provincial territory also includes the famous PortAventura World theme park, one of the most visited in Europe.

Economy and Traditions

The province combines a thriving economy based on tourism, the petrochemical industry of the Tarragona complex, and a rich agricultural tradition that produces excellent wines, olive oils, and nuts. Its municipalities preserve ancestral traditions such as the famous castells or human towers, a unique cultural expression recognized by UNESCO.
