Inside the Nest Box

This webcam looks directly into a kestrel nest box fixed high on the Altes Rathaus, Weißenburg's Gothic-era town hall. A built-in microphone picks up the birds' calls, giving an intimate, close-range view of one of Europe's most familiar small falcons at home.

A Species Well Adapted to Towns

The Eurasian kestrel hunts over open ground but often nests on tall buildings, bridges, and church towers in the heart of human settlements. This box, installed on a centuries-old civic building, is a striking example of how the species has adapted to city life.

A Conservation Partnership

The camera is run by the city of Weißenburg in Bayern in cooperation with the Bavarian nature conservation league (LBV) and the regional wildlife authority, part of a wider effort to monitor and protect raptors nesting on public buildings.
