Majete Wildlife Reserve Cam 5
OnlineThis infrared-equipped camera watches over a natural, stone-ringed waterhole inside Majete Wildlife Reserve in southern Malawi, one of several fixed units that PixCams operates across the reserve's remote watering points. Shaded by scattered acacia and framed by dry grassland, the pool forms a natural gathering point where elephant, antelope, and the reserve's other reintroduced wildlife come to drink.

A Waterhole Window into Majete
This infrared-equipped camera keeps watch over a natural, stone-ringed waterhole inside Majete Wildlife Reserve, a roughly 270-square-mile sanctuary in the Chikwawa district of southern Malawi. It is one of several fixed units that PixCams has deployed across the reserve's remote watering points to track the movements of its resident wildlife.
Twenty Years of Reintroduction
Majete was emptied of its large mammals by poaching, but over two decades more than 3,000 animals from 17 species have been reintroduced, from elephant and black rhino to wild dog and giraffe. Repeat births among these founder populations are the clearest sign of a genuinely recovering ecosystem.
A Feat of Remote Engineering
Broadcasting from this stretch of Majete required custom infrastructure: the camera runs on solar power and battery storage, streaming over Starlink satellite internet where grid power and mobile coverage never reach. A cloud-managed encoder keeps the feed running with minimal on-site upkeep.
What to Watch For
Patience pays off at this stone-ringed waterhole: antelope, elephant, and Majete's other reintroduced residents drift in and out of frame to drink and graze. Each appearance offers an unscripted glimpse into the quiet rhythms of one of Malawi's great conservation success stories.
