A West-Facing View from the Summit
Perched atop the Sherman Adams Summit Building, this camera looks west across the alpine summit cone of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 feet. The historic transmission tower anchors the frame as hikers make their way across the boulder field toward the true summit.
Operated by a Working Research Station
The feed is run by the Mount Washington Observatory, a non-profit scientific institution that has continuously staffed the summit since 1932. Observers here track some of the most extreme weather conditions on the planet, including hurricane-force winds and dense rime-ice buildup on every exposed surface.
Part of the Presidential Range
Mount Washington anchors the Presidential Range in New Hampshire's White Mountains, a chain of peaks named for U.S. presidents and beloved by hikers pursuing the classic Northeast alpine traverse. The exposed, treeless summit zone offers sweeping views across the surrounding White Mountain National Forest.
