A Direct Line of Sight Into the Nest Bowl

This is one of three synchronized cameras trained on a single osprey nesting platform, and unlike its companion perch and wide-angle views, this lens is centered squarely on the nest bowl itself. From this vantage point viewers can watch chick-feeding, wing exercises, and the constant rearranging of sticks and grass that keeps the nest secure.

Frederick and Betsy

The platform is home to a breeding pair the operators have named Frederick and Betsy. Ospreys are fish-eating raptors that famously mate for life and return to the same nesting site year after year, and this close-up angle is the best seat in the house for watching their offspring grow.

A Remote Stretch of the Northern Outer Banks

The 24-foot nesting tower stands beside a brackish water canal near Carova Beach, a wild, road-less community on North Carolina's northernmost barrier strand reachable only by four-wheel-drive. The site sits a short distance from both Knotts Island Bay and the open Atlantic Ocean, placing the resident ospreys at the heart of a rich coastal feeding ground.
