An Unlikely Wildlife Refuge

The Raccoon Saloon began as an ordinary hunting camp in rural Maine, used only a few times a year by a group of out-of-state hunters. As the owners aged and visits grew rare, the property was left quietly abandoned — and a resourceful family of wild raccoons moved in, turning the empty farmhouse into their own private den.

A Porch with a View

This particular camera covers the south-facing porch, framed by a rustic wooden railing that overlooks a broad lawn, a gravel access lane, and rolling fields beyond. A hanging feeder sways from a nearby branch, and stands of tall pine and hardwood trees line the property's edge, giving the scene a distinctly New England countryside feel.

The porch view is just one of many fixed cameras placed around the Raccoon Saloon grounds, each watching a different room or corner of the property. Together they let viewers follow the resident raccoons — and the occasional passing deer or bird — as the animals explore, forage, and settle into their unusual rural home.
