A Window into Seal Rehabilitation
This camera streams live from a Phase 3 recovery pool at WEC Lauwersoog, the harbor-based facility of the Seal Centre Pieterburen Foundation. Seals reaching this stage are past their most critical medical care and are learning to swim, dive and forage independently in a larger, more natural setting than the centre's earlier nursery pools.
Wadden Sea Conservation
Stichting Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen has cared for injured, orphaned and sick seals along the Dutch Wadden coast for decades, with the ultimate goal of returning every healthy animal to the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage wetland. The Lauwersoog site's proximity to the harbor allows a short, low-stress transfer for the final release.
What You Can See
The wide-angle view overlooks two connected pool enclosures divided by a central walkway, where caretakers can monitor and interact with the seals. Expect to see the animals resting at the surface, diving to the pool floor, or gathering near the walkway rails as they build up strength for their return to open water.
