Underwater Seal Tank, WEC Lauwersoog
OnlineThis underwater viewing tank at the WEC Lauwersoog seal facility gives a rare submerged perspective on a Phase 3 rehabilitation enclosure, part of the wider Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen care network.
The reinforced concrete pool includes a staff access ladder and a haul-out platform, letting rescued seals move between water and dry rest areas as they recover before release back into the Wadden Sea.

A Window Into Seal Rehabilitation
This camera streams a Phase 3 enclosure at the WEC Lauwersoog satellite site of Stichting Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen, the Dutch foundation devoted to caring for injured, orphaned, and sick seals from the Wadden Sea coastline.
Purpose-Built Pool Design
The circular concrete basin is engineered with sloped walls, a metal service ladder, and a raised haul-out ledge, allowing keepers to monitor the seals' swimming behaviour and physical condition as part of their staged recovery programme.
Conservation Through Live Streaming
By broadcasting the enclosure publicly, the foundation raises awareness of seal conservation along the Wadden Sea and funds the ongoing rescue work that returns healthy animals to the wild.
