A Century-Old Stork Home
The 32-metre tower of the Gothic St. Gallus parish church has hosted a white stork nest for over a hundred years. This elevated vantage offers an intimate look at one of the region's most cherished breeding sites, where generations of storks have raised their young high above the village.
Life in the Nest
The camera captures the daily rhythms of a breeding stork pair and their chicks โ feeding, preening and the constant rearranging of the massive twig platform. It is a rare, close window onto the natural behaviour of these iconic migratory birds in their nesting habitat.
The Black Forest Setting
Beyond the nest stretches Kirchzarten in the scenic Dreisamtal valley, ringed by the wooded slopes of the Black Forest just east of Freiburg im Breisgau. Red-roofed houses, green fields and distant ridgelines frame one of southwest Germany's most picturesque landscapes.
Conservation in Action
The nest is one of around 270 tended by the volunteer Weiรstorch Breisgau association, which protects white storks across the Breisgau, runs a rescue station and carries out regular nest checks. The livestream fosters public understanding of wild birds and supports these ongoing conservation efforts.
